Topical Caution · Oral Strictly Contraindicated
Can you use Tranexamic Acid (Topical) during pregnancy?
⚠️Medical Deferral Notice
Oral is strictly contraindicated. Topical should be paused or discussed with your high-risk OB-GYN. Cosmetic classifications are formulation flags to discuss with your healthcare provider, not medical clearance.
Clinical Summary
An antifibrinolytic agent that suppresses plasmin-mediated melanogenesis. Oral is contraindicated; topical carries caution.
Pharmacological Mechanism & Teratogenic Context
Oral tranexamic acid carries thromboembolic risks that are particularly dangerous in pregnancy's hypercoagulable state. While topical serums (2%–5%) exhibit very low transdermal uptake, most OB-GYNs recommend postponing tranexamic acid until after delivery and relying on azelaic acid or vitamin C instead.
