Biological Mechanism

Cutaneous firmness relies on type I and III collagen fibril bundles interwoven with oxytalan and elaunin elastic fibers, anchored at the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) via collagen IV and VII. With chronological aging and chronic UV exposure, elastolytic matrix metalloproteinases degrade elastic fibers faster than fibroblasts can replace them. Simultaneously, advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) cross-link collagen into brittle, non-compliant matrices, causing dermal deflation and gravity-induced tissue sagging.
