ROUTINE ARCHITECTURE BLUEPRINT

Skincare Routine for Oily Skin: AM & PM

A clinical AM/PM framework designed to normalize sebaceous lipogenesis, dissolve follicular congestion, and maintain hydration without occlusive film formers.

PHYSIOLOGICAL PROFILE

Skin Type Characteristics

  • Persistent shiny surface across forehead, nose, and cheeks within 2 hours of washing
  • Enlarged, visible follicular pores prone to oxidation and comedones
  • High tolerance to chemical exfoliants and lipid-soluble actives
  • Tendency to feel congested under rich creams or heavy plant oils
FORMULATION VEHICLE RULES

Optimal Texture Strategy

Aqueous solutions, non-viscous essences, water-gel hydrators, and ultra-fluid chemical or hybrid sunscreens. Avoid petrolatum, shea butter, and dense wax esters.

DAYTIME DEFENSE

Morning (AM) Routine

4 Steps
Step 01

Low-pH Gentle Gel Cleanser

Cleanser

Removes oxidized nighttime sebum without stripping essential stratum corneum ceramides.

Texture recommendation:Water-based gel
Step 02

Niacinamide 2–5% Solution

Active Treatment

Down-regulates daytime sebaceous excretion and reduces pore dilation appearance.

Texture recommendation:Lightweight fluid
Step 03

Oil-Free Gel Hydrator

Moisturizer (Optional)

Replenishes hyaluronic acid and glycerin without adding exogenous fatty acids.

Texture recommendation:Aqueous gel
Step 04

Matte Fluid SPF 50+

Sunscreen

Broad-spectrum UV protection with sebum-absorbing silica or starch microspheres.

Texture recommendation:Ultra-fluid lotion
MIDDAY GUIDELINE

Midday Maintenance

Blot excess surface sebum with unpowdered cellulose sheets. Avoid layering powder or repeated cleansing, which triggers rebound oiliness.

NOCTURNAL RESTORATION

Evening (PM) Routine

4 Steps
Step 01

Gentle Micellar Water or Cleansing Oil

First Cleanse

Dissolves waterproof sunscreen and sebum plugs via lipophilic attraction.

Texture recommendation:Micellar fluid
Step 02

Foaming Amino-Acid Cleanser

Second Cleanse

Rinses away dissolved impurities while maintaining physiological skin pH (5.0–5.5).

Texture recommendation:Light foam
Step 03

Salicylic Acid 1–2% (BHA) or Retinoid

Exfoliant / Active

Diffuses into sebaceous ducts to dissolve intra-pore keratin plugs; alternated with retinol.

Texture recommendation:Liquid / light emulsion
Step 04

Ceramide-Ectoin Barrier Fluid

Moisturizer

Locks in hydration overnight without heavy occlusive waxes.

Texture recommendation:Weightless lotion
FREQUENCY SCHEDULE

Weekly Active Ingredient Cadence

BHA 2 to 3 nights weekly. Retinoid 3 to 4 nights weekly on alternate evenings. At least 1 rest evening reserved exclusively for barrier replenishment.

CRITICAL FORMULATION ERRORS

Common Pitfalls for Oily Skin

Using aggressive high-pH sulfate bar soaps that strip lipids and trigger compensatory hyper-seborrhea
Skipping moisturizer completely, which leads to stratum corneum dehydration beneath an oily film
Layering multiple alcohol-heavy astringents that cause micro-inflammation and irritation
